Man Kills Wife in Lyari Over Phone Call Suspicion

KARACHI – August 6, 2025:
In a disturbing act of domestic violence, a 45-year-old woman and mother of seven, identified as Bakhtawar, was shot dead by her husband in the Lyari neighborhood of Karachi late Tuesday evening. The suspect, Nawab, reportedly acted on suspicion that his wife had been speaking to someone on the phone, police said.

According to Inspector Sajjad Dharijo, SHO of the Chakiwara Police Station, the fatal incident took place during a heated argument inside the couple’s home. In the middle of the altercation, Nawab allegedly pulled out a 30-bore pistol and opened fire, fatally wounding his wife.

Police, with the help of area residents, swiftly reached the scene. Nawab was apprehended on the spot, with the murder weapon still in his possession, officials confirmed. The body of the deceased was transported to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Tragically, as no immediate family members came forward to claim Bakhtawar’s body, local residents arranged for it to be kept in a morgue, pending further procedures.

Authorities say they are investigating the case under relevant sections of the law. Residents of the area expressed shock and sadness over the killing, calling for stricter action against domestic violence and so-called honour-based crimes.
