Sindh High Court Directs Karachi Commissioner to Review Milk Price Mechanism

Karachi, August 29, 2025 — The Sindh High Court on Friday directed the Commissioner of Karachi to hold consultations with relevant stakeholders before finalizing milk prices, stressing the need for transparency in the process.

The directive came during the hearing of a petition filed by dairy farmers, who challenged the Commissioner’s authority to set milk prices unilaterally. The petitioners argued that despite earlier court instructions, no stakeholder meeting had been called to discuss the issue.

Their counsel told the court that the Commissioner continued to fix prices without taking dairy farmers, retailers, and consumers’ representatives into confidence, which amounted to bypassing due process.

Taking notice of the complaint, the court ordered the Commissioner Karachi to convene a meeting with all concerned parties within one month. The bench further directed that an implementation report be submitted to the court after the consultations are completed.
