ISLAMABAD – A series of heavy landslides hit the Jalkhad and Basar areas of Naran Valley late last night, leading to a full closure of the Gilgit Highway.
In response, Mansehra’s District Administration quickly initiated a coordinated emergency rescue and relief mission.
The operation brought together multiple departments: Tehsil officials, revenue teams, district police, the National Highway Authority (NHA), Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), Rescue 1122, other government bodies, and local residents.
Several tourists who had been stranded were safely rescued along with their vehicles. With support from the Pakistan Army, food supplies were distributed to those affected. Authorities also managed to clear and open alternate routes to resume traffic movement.
Thanks to the combined efforts of all teams, the trapped tourists were evacuated overnight using the MNJ Road. Meanwhile, work to clear debris and large rocks from the original highway is still ongoing.
Mansehra’s District Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of both locals and tourists in the region.
