KARACHI — A serious health crisis has emerged in SITE Town, Karachi, as over 15 children have been diagnosed with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) in recent weeks, with at least two fatalities reported. The affected children, some as young as one year old, were previously treated at the Kulsum Bai Valika Social Security SITE Hospital, commonly known as Valika Hospital.
The situation came to light after an 18-month-old girl tested positive, prompting local residents, political activists, and community representatives to take immediate notice. Following this revelation, the hospital administration agreed to screen children previously treated at the facility, uncovering a growing number of cases.
A government official stated that the Health Department is focusing on both treatment and prevention, assuring the public that measures are being taken to control the outbreak and provide proper medical care to affected children.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to this alarming spike in pediatric HIV cases, as families and local leaders demand accountability and urgent interventions to prevent further spread.
