KARACHI – July 1, 2025: A 70-year-old scrap dealer from Landhi, Karachi, has reportedly been abducted, with his captors demanding a ransom of Rs20 million, two Rado watches, and two iPhones for his release. The distressing incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The victim, identified as Moeenuddin, had left home on June 21 to travel to Sadiqabad for a scrap-purchasing trip. According to family members, his younger son, Zeeshan, dropped him off near the Landhi Railway Station around 6:10 am.
The following day, Moeenuddin’s elder son, Ghayasuddin, tried to contact his father on both of his mobile numbers but found them switched off. As time passed with no word, concern grew among family members.
Then, on June 23 at 1:45 pm, the situation took a horrifying turn. Both sons received a chilling message from their father’s phone, informing them that he had been kidnapped and was being held at an undisclosed location. The message was followed by a video that left the family in shock — it showed the elderly man stripped naked and being subjected to physical abuse.
The kidnappers warned that failure to meet their demands within two days would result in Moeenuddin being killed.
The family immediately approached the Quaidabad Police Station, where a case has been registered against unidentified suspects. Law enforcement officials confirmed that they are treating the case with utmost urgency and have launched a probe to trace the victim’s whereabouts.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the kidnapping was carried out by a local gang or an organised criminal network, but sources suggest the level of coordination points to a well-planned operation.
As the clock ticks, the family remains in deep distress, appealing to the police and intelligence agencies for swift action.
