Bank Alfalah Commits Additional PKR 1.4 Billion to Help Rebuild Flood-Affected Communities

Bank Alfalah has announced another major step in its ongoing efforts to help flood-hit areas of Pakistan. The bank’s Chairman, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, along with the Board of Directors, has approved an additional contribution of PKR 1.4 billion (approximately USD 5 million) to support the rebuilding of communities devastated by the 2025 floods.

With this latest pledge, the bank’s total support for flood relief and rehabilitation since 2022 now stands at USD 15 million a testament to its continued commitment to stand with the people of Pakistan in times of crisis.

The announcement was made by Atif Bajwa, President and CEO of Bank Alfalah, during a press conference held in Karachi. “At Bank Alfalah, we see ourselves as more than just a financial institution we are a caring bank,” Bajwa said. “We are deeply thankful to our Chairman and the Board for their generosity. This renewed commitment shows our shared belief that rebuilding lives and enhancing climate resilience is vital for a sustainable future.”

According to the bank, the newly allocated funds will be directed through a network of partner organizations to help restore key infrastructure, rebuild livelihoods, and strengthen resilience across the worst-affected regions. The initiative focuses on long-term development goals such as housing, education, healthcare, and climate-smart agriculture to ensure sustainable recovery.

The 2025 floods have compounded the ongoing challenges Pakistan has faced since the devastating 2022 floods, which impacted around 33 million people nationwide. Despite extensive aid efforts, over eight million displaced citizens are still struggling with housing and health-related issues.

Following the 2022 catastrophe, Bank Alfalah had launched a USD 10 million flood response plan that was rolled out in two phases immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation. Working with over 25 partner organizations, including Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance, The Citizens Foundation, Karachi Relief Trust, and the Aga Khan Development Network, the bank focused on rebuilding homes, schools, and essential community services, while promoting financial inclusion and supporting agricultural recovery.

In addition to external relief efforts, Bank Alfalah extended PKR 500 million in direct financial assistance to 479 of its employees whose homes and assets were destroyed in the floods, reflecting its strong culture of compassion and care.

The bank’s latest contribution comes at a critical time as Pakistan battles yet another monsoon disaster. UNICEF reports that nearly 946 lives have been lost including 255 children while over 1.5 million people have been displaced across the country.

This new gesture of solidarity from Bank Alfalah’s leadership not only underscores the strong bond between the UAE and Pakistan but also reaffirms the bank’s unwavering dedication to responsible and sustainable corporate citizenship.
