KARACHI – In a significant step towards strengthening ties between Pakistan and Iran, the newly-appointed Iranian Consul General in Karachi, Akbar Issazadeh, met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House on Thursday.
During the meeting, both officials discussed ways to boost bilateral relations, with a special focus on trade, tourism, and cultural cooperation. Chief Minister Shah confirmed that an agreement was reached to initiate direct flights between Karachi and Tehran, aimed at making travel easier for pilgrims. Private airlines are expected to be approached to support this initiative.
The discussion also covered enhancing economic and commercial activities. Both sides expressed interest in doubling trade between Karachi and Tehran from Rs5 billion to Rs10 billion, organizing joint trade exhibitions, and fostering cultural exchange through media collaborations.
Furthermore, the talks extended to potential cooperation in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries. The Chief Minister announced that provincial ministers concerned with these sectors would soon meet with the Consul General to explore practical steps for collaboration.
