Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Announces ‘Haqooq Karachi’ March Towards CM House

Karachi, August 26, 2025 — Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has announced that it will stage a “Haqooq Karachi” march outside the Chief Minister’s House on Sunday, August 31, to protest what it describes as government indifference to the city’s worsening civic crisis.

Addressing a press conference, JI Karachi chief Munem Zafar said the metropolis considered the country’s economic hub has been left battered after the recent rains, with flooded streets and crumbling infrastructure causing immense hardship for residents. “Even after witnessing the city’s deteriorating condition, the rulers remain unmoved,” he remarked.

Citing recent incidents, Zafar referred to a traffic accident on Drigh Road that claimed three lives, saying poor infrastructure and negligence were aggravating such tragedies. He added that whenever it rains, Karachi’s sewerage system collapses. “There is no department actively engaged in relief work. The Karimabad underpass, promised to be completed within two years, still lies unfinished and is filled with stagnant water, leaving shopkeepers in distress,” he noted.

The JI leader also criticized the state of public healthcare, highlighting that postgraduate doctors at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital are on strike, while house officers have been denied salaries for four months. “Neither are they being paid, nor has any increase been announced. Meanwhile, the PPP government continues to remain a silent spectator,” he said.

Zafar stressed that the situation demands action, not silence. “Jamaat-e-Islami stands with the people of Karachi. On August 31, at 3 pm, we will march from the Karachi Press Club to the Chief Minister’s House to demand the rights of this city,” he declared.

He further held Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab responsible for failing to clean the city’s storm drains, warning that negligence could lead to further urban flooding. “We even wrote a letter to the mayor urging immediate cleaning of nullahs, but no steps were taken,” he adde۔‘‘
